Cabarroguis, Quirino- March 19- In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Quirino conducted a series of activities aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality. The event featured a lecture on Women Empowerment and Defensive Driving, followed by a lively Zumba competition among PSA employees and On-the-Job Training (OJT) trainees.

In her message, Engr. Cherry Grace D. Agustin, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA Quirino underscored the vital role of women in society. She spoke passionately about the resilience and strength that define every woman, reminding them that they are strong, capable, and enough. She emphasized the importance of self-confidence, urging women never to let doubt overshadow their potential.

Following this, Officer-in-Charge of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)- Quirino, Ms. Antonette M. Peralta, delivered an inspiring message reinforcing the idea that women are limitless. She reiterated that while setbacks may be part of the journey, they should never define a woman’s path. Instead, they serve as steppingstones toward greater achievements. She encouraged women to embrace resilience, rise above challenges, and never lose sight of their worth.

The highlight of the event was a lecture on Women Empowerment in the context of Gender and Development delivered by Ms. Gladys S. Luna from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). She discussed various topics, including gender roles, community participation, violations and discrimination against women, gender stereotyping, and the importance of building a supportive community. Ms. Luna underscored the steps necessary to overcome discrimination, which include welfare, access to resources, conscientization, and participation control. She reminded that all woman is worthy of something great.

Additionally, a dynamic and insightful lecture on Defensive Driving was conducted by Mr. Wilson C. Versoza, a seasoned trainer from TESDA-Quirino. With his vast experience, he engaged participants in a discussion on road safety, emphasizing the importance of vigilance, discipline, and adherence to traffic regulations. He delved into the significance of understanding road signs, traffic lights, and defensive driving techniques to prevent accidents and ensure safety for all road users. This session was particularly invaluable for employees who drive as part of their daily responsibilities, equipping them with practical knowledge to navigate roads more safely and responsibly.

The second part of the celebration featured the much-awaited Zumba Contest, which was not only about fitness and fun but also about empowerment, confidence, and celebrating women’s strength through dance. A panel of esteemed judges, known for their expertise in various fields, ensured a fair and exciting contest, recognizing the dedication and spirit of each group.

With infectious energy and enthusiasm, the two groups showcased their passion and teamwork through synchronized movements turning the competition into a thrilling and uplifting experience for all.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Supervising Statistical Specialist Ms. Karen T. Fernandez, who expressed gratitude to all participants. She commended everyone for their active participation and encouraged continuous efforts in empowering women and advocating for gender equality.
