11 OCTOBER 2024, TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN - In celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM), the Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office No. II (PSA RSSO II) successfully conducted a vibrant "Statistics for Kids" event alongside the "Rehistro Bulilit" initiative. This engaging event took place at the Jollibee Tanza Branch, where thirthy (30) unregistered children aged 1-10 years were able to register for the National ID for free.
Mary Jane Cabauatan, Supervising Statistical Specialist of PSA RSSO II, opened the program by emphasizing the significance of this month dedicated to statistics. “We aim to highlight the importance of statistics in a fun and playful way,” Cabauatan stated. “We appreciate your participation in our Statistics for Kids. Our hope is that your children will learn valuable lessons in statistics during our brief but enjoyable discussions. Additionally, we thank the guardians for dedicating their time to register their children for the National ID, which is essential for various identity-related transactions,” Cabauatan stated.
Following the opening remarks, the Jollibee crew entertained the kids with exciting games and prizes. Juvy S. Agbayani, Senior Statistical Specialist of PSA RSSO II, engaged the children in an interactive learning experience using a pizza diagram to explain basic statistical concepts. She also informed the guardians about the Population Census and Community-Based Monitoring System (POPCEN-CBMS) and underscored the importance of their support for accurate data collection that helps in formulating impactful community policies and projects.
Ma. Isaandra N. Miguel, Registration Officer III of PSA RSSO II, provided essential information about the ongoing National ID registration for children. She explained that for those under five years old, only demographic information and a front-facing photograph would be collected, as biometric data such as fingerprints and iris scans are not yet fully developed. Parents were advised that children would need to return for biometric data collection once they turn five.
The event culminated with a much-anticipated meet-and-greet with Jollibee, where kids enjoyed taking pictures with the beloved character. To wrap up the day, the PSA presented love gifts to the children, ensuring they left with smiles.
Daisy Villar, Registration Officer IV, concluded the program by thanking the guardians for their participation and reiterated the PSA's commitment to conducting similar activities in the future to promote statistics and facilitate the registration of children for the National ID.
