18 November 2024, Tuguegarao City – The highly anticipated 28th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Regional Championship concluded last Friday (15 November 2024) with student from the Isabela State University (ISU) bagging the regional champion. Miss Febvoah R. Joaquin, a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy student of ISU-Echague Campus dominated the competition and will represent the region at the National Championship in Manila on 05 December 2024. Other big winners include Charles M. Somera of Philippine Normal University who placed second and Felipe S. Gacias of Cagayan State University – Carig Campus bagged the third place. The regional elimination for the 28th PSQ held at PSA conference room, showcased talented students from across the region competing in a test of their statistical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Ms. Joaquin’s victory is a testament to the exceptional talent in the region. Her coach, Mr. Erwin G. Corpuz will accompany her to the national championship against the 16 other regional champions from all over the country. In recognition of the outstanding performances, the winners were awarded medals and cash prizes. Additionally, the schools of the top three winners were presented with plaques of recognition for their support in fostering academic excellence in the field of statistics. All the contestants and coaches were also given due recognition for their hard work and dedication.
The event was led by Engr. Girme M. Bayucan, Officer-in-Charge of the PSA-RSSO II who played a crucial role in organizing and facilitating the quiz bee. In his welcome, Engr. Bayucan inspired the participants with an encouraging message, urging them to continue pursuing their academic and professional goals and emphasized that participation in the 28th PSQ is not just an ordinary competition, but a stepping stone toward shaping their future careers.
The Philippine Statistics Quiz, now in its 28th year, remains a key platform for promoting statistical literacy among students in the Philippines, encouraging them to pursue careers in statistics, economics and related fields.
