The total volume of poultry production in the Cagayan Valley reached 74,503 metric tons in 2024, an increase of 5.0 percent compared to the poultry production in 2023 at 70,981 metric tons, liveweight (Figure 1).

In 2024, chicken production accounted for the largest share to the total poultry production in the region, with 71.6 percent share or 53,378 metric tons, liveweight. This was followed by chicken eggs which contributed 22.5 percent share or 16,764 metric tons, duck with 3.6 percent share or 2,671 metric tons, liveweight, and duck eggs with 2.3 percent share or 1,689 metric tons (Figure 2).
All animal types recorded an increase in production in 2024 compared to their respective values in 2023, except for duck eggs which dropped by 7.0 percent, from 1,817 metric tons in 2023 to 1,689 metric tons in 2024. The production of chicken eggs posted the highest uptick at 13.0 percent, followed by duck at 3.6 percent and chicken at 3.2 percent (Figure 2).

Among the five provinces in the region, Isabela contributed the highest share in the overall poultry production in 2024, accounting for 70.1 percent of the region’s total chicken production (37,437 metric tons, liveweight), 54.9 percent of total chicken egg production (9,202 metric tons), 44.0 percent of total duck production (1,175 metric tons, liveweight), and 54.5 percent of total duck egg production (920 metric tons) (Figure 3).

As of 01 January 2025, the total chicken inventory in the region was recorded at 6.3 million birds, marking an increase of 10.6 percent from 5.7 million birds in the same period of 2024. Native/improved chickens made up the largest portion of the inventory, accounting for 63.1 percent (4.0 million birds). In terms of farm type, smallhold farms had the largest contribution with 63.4 percent share of the total chicken inventory, followed by commercial type with 36.1 percent share, and semi-commercial with 0.5 percent share (Table 1).
Meanwhile, the region’s total duck inventory as of 01 January 2025 was noted at 1.4 million birds. This translates to a decrease of 2.9 percent compared to the recorded 1.5 million birds in the same period of 2024. Across farm types, semi-commercial experienced an increase in the total number of birds by 145.8 percent, while smallhold farms declined by 17.0 percent.

The average farmgate price per kilogram, liveweight of chicken native/improved and duck for meat in household farms increased by 5.3 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively in 2024. The average price of native/improved chicken rose to Php 196.54 per kilogram in 2024 from Php 186.69 per kilogram in 2023, while duck for meat was priced at Php 182.07 per kilogram in 2024, up from Php 175.64 per kilogram in 2023.
The highest farmgate price of native/improved chicken was recorded in February 2024 at Php 202.19 per kilogram, while the lowest was quoted in April 2024 at Php 189.41 per kilogram. Conversely, the highest average farmgate price of duck for meat was observed in October 2024 at
Php 192.13 per kilogram, while the lowest was in March 2024 at Php 171.51 per kilogram (Table 2).

For establishments, the average farmgate price of chicken layer (culls), and chicken egg in 2024 were Php 87.70 per kilogram, liveweight and Php 7.42 per piece, respectively. The highest farmgate price of chicken layer was recorded at Php 109.08 per kilogram in October 2024, while the lowest was quoted at Php 65.21 in February 2024. Meanwhile, the highest farmgate price of chicken egg was observed in November 2024 at Php 8.10 per piece, while the lowest were in April 2024 and May 2024 at Php 6.87 per piece (Table 3).
