13 March 2025 – TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN. As a prelude to the upcoming compilation of Environment Statistics for the region, the Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office II (PSA RSSO II) conducted the Training on the Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES) on 11 to 13 March, in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
The training was attended by a total of 53 representatives, including five (5) attending online via Zoom, from 30 agencies that are members of the Cagayan Valley Environment and Natural Resources Accounting Steering Committee (CV-ENRASC), and other data users and providers of environmental accounts and environment statistics.
On behalf of Engr. Girme M. Bayucan, Officer-in-Charge of PSA RSSO II, Ms. Rose Q. Pacay, Chief Administrative Officer, delivered an opening remark to officially start the activity. She welcomed the participants and highlighted the shared responsibility of different agencies in advancing environmental statistics through a multi-disciplinary approach. This was followed by a message from Mr. Mark C. Pascasio, Officer-in-Charge Assistant National Statistician of the Macroeconomic Accounts Service (MAS), who emphasized the critical role of FDES in supporting informed decision-making and policy development for environmental sustainability.
Three resource speakers from Central Office-MAS, Ms. Michelle Fatima C. Arizo (Senior Statistical Specialist), Mr. Jonel Jake P. Galinato (Statistical Specialist II), and Mr. Cyrill Josse L. Cariño (Statistical Analyst), discussed the six components of FDES 2013 and subsequently inquired about the availability of the required data from the relevant source agencies. An open forum and group exercise also followed each presentation. Afterwards, participants took part in a SWOT and Data Assessment workshop.
In addition, PSA RSSOs V and CAR, who pioneered the compilation of environment statistics in the Philippines, also shared their experiences via zoom.
The training concluded with a closing remarks from Ms. Mary Jane C. Cabauatan, Supervising Statistical Specialist of PSA RSSO II. She thanked all the participants and expressed gratitude for their active engagement and commitment to advancing environmental statistics in the region.
